Constipation...and Immune health?

Fiber importance

Dear Friend,

Our kids each have their own picky eating habits, and vegetables have always been a tough sell—especially when it comes to fiber.

Lately, one of our kids has been struggling with constipation. Not surprising, considering how little fiber makes it onto their plates. But once I explained why fiber matters, something finally clicked.

Fiber is about more than just pooping.

Yes, it helps with constipation—but that’s just the beginning.

Key Benefits of Fiber:

  • Adds bulk to stool and prevents constipation

  • Helps lower lipids like ApoB and LDL

  • Feeds the gut microbiome

Downstream Benefits:

  • A healthy gut supports immune health, metabolic function, and even emotional balance

  • Skin issues like eczema (which our kids also struggle with) are increasingly being linked to gut health

For our daughters, once we made the connection between fiber and clearer skin, it was a lightbulb moment. Suddenly, daily fiber—and healthy poops—became a goal they cared about.

It’s a much smoother conversation than:

“Eat your vegetables because I said so.”

Classic Crizen on Mother’s day. She wanted to go to Costco to buy sound reduction panels because they were on sale. We got 35 boxes, cleaned out a couple pallets and filled up two cars to bring them home. Luckily we have kids that can finally do some heavy lifting (Nina’s face, they crack me up).

Thanks,

Mike
