Recovery Gains: No Pain, No Gain?
Dear Friend,
Harder. Faster.
Sleep when you’re dead.
These slogans can spark motivation and build momentum—but if your long-term strategy doesn’t include recovery, you’re running uphill on a treadmill that never stops.
Now imagine this: working out less…and suddenly sleeping better, shedding those last few stubborn pounds, and feeling lighter—mentally and physically.
That’s exactly what happened to a few of our clients—and to Crizen.
She was hitting the gym 6 days a week, pushing serious weight at high intensity. Every walk was fast-paced or done with a ruck pack. Even downtime had a purpose: power walks, paddleboarding squats, air squats at kids sporting events. Everything was “go mode”.
But despite elite fitness metrics and a strong body, she wasn’t feeling her best. Her energy plateaued, inflammation crept in.
So we changed one thing:
One real recovery day per week.
The result?
Sleep scores improved (Increased HRV, increased deep and REM sleep)
She lost 2 lbs (with no change in nutrition)
Felt less bloated, less inflamed
Counterintuitive but makes perfect sense:
When you’re always in high gear, the body starts conserving. Stress hormones rise. Recovery suffers. Sleep takes a hit. And ironically, all your hard work becomes harder to benefit from.
By easing off the gas just a little, Crizen’s body finally had space to respond.
Sometimes less is more—especially when your goal is long-term health and performance.
Know someone who might be overdoing it? Forward this their way. Strategic recovery might be their missing edge.

Costa Rica was a great relaxing trip. This week we head to Jasper, Canada after my cousin’s wedding in SF. It’ll be filled with hiking and outdoor activities in 30-40 degree weather, so we’re getting our body’s prepared to do some work.
Thanks,
Mike
